Learning 2.0: Exercise 9: Library blogs/newsfeeds

I searched for more newsfeeds to add to my bloglines account. I found one using Blogline's search tool (LibrarianInBlack) but had no luck with Feedster. I didn't like Feedster as much as the Bloglines's search tool. I added a feed from Topix.net on local (San Jose) news which included some links to stories on the City's budget which will effect SJPL. I found Syndic8.com difficult to use...couldn't figure it out. I used Technorati to add a feed to the NY Times about the controversy created by the use of the word "scrotum" in an award winning children's book.

I'm not sure yet whether I feel it will be useful to have access to all these newsfeeds...or whether it will become just one more thing to check each day...

Learning 2.0: Exercise 8 RSS Feeds/Bloglines

I have set up my bloglines account and added the following newsfeeds:

Entertainment: Books (SJMN)
Local News (SJMN)
Breaking News (SJMN)
Dog's Life (Learning 2.0 participant)
Reader's Club: Romance
Reader's Club: Mystery
Barking Frog (Learning 2.0 participant)
Unshelved
Learning 2.0 Blog feed
National News (SJMN)

Here is my public bloglines URL: http://rpc.bloglines.com/blogroll?html=1&id=roblou53

I'm not sure what I feel about RSS...I can see that it might save someone a lot of time if they need news stories on a regular basis. I'm going to have to try it out for awhile before I know what I think about it...

Learning 2.0 Exercise 7 Blog post on technology

OK. I was not into the idea of digital photography at all until I saw the images on Flickr. I am now seriously considering investing in a digital camera so I can post pictures and share them with family and friends. My brother-in-law has a digital camera and I plan to ask him to show me how it works so I can take some pictures next time I'm in Sacramento and post them on Flickr. This is a big leap for me---as I will also need to buy a home computer of my own as well! I have been putting that off since I use a computer so much at work. It usually works that way I've found...one new thing leads to another.

Learning 2.0: Exercise 6 (FLICKR Fun)

So far, I think I like Flickr Color Pikr the most...it has some fantastic pictures...really lime green limes, a gorgeous orange sunset, extremely pink "rosas"....

Mappr would be great if you were posting a lot of pictures from a trip or your home town. Since I have yet to post any pictures on Flickr I'm not sure how soon I can try this...

I'm beginning to think that Montager might beat out Color Pikr....I did a montage of dachshund pictures that was great...four mosaics of dachshunds of all types (mini or standard), coats (long, short, wire)...here is a link: http://www.deviousgelatin.com/montager/image.php?image=270488428

I looked into doing a trading card or poster but I have no images of myself on my computer... all in all exploring Flickr was a fun exercise.

Learning 2.0 Exercise 5

Okay...I'm a few weeks behind but have managed to tackle Exercise 5--FLICKR. I have set up an account (see the test post) and have searched FLICKR (everyone's photos) for the subjects "libraries and signs" and have posted a photo to my blog. I also posted a comment about the photo I selected.

I really like this sign. It says a lot about what libraries can do and what they are for.

I think this is a great sign for a library...it encapsulates everything I think libraries are for...

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.
